[2019] Eight Fingers Crossed

Eight Fingers Crossed is a collaborative exhibition that showcases the incredible talent of eight artists, three of whom are neurodiverse artists from Tutti Arts, a South Australian multi-arts organisation. Throughout June and July 2019, these artists came together to share stories, skills, and experiences, resulting in a dynamic cross-collaboration that generated new work reflecting on the importance of flexibility, experimentation, and inclusive support systems within studio practice.

In a dynamic cross-collaboration the eight artist’s generated new work that reflected on the roles of flexibility, experimentation, and inclusive support systems within studio practice. The immersive practice-guided sessions were used to cultivate sensitivity and responsiveness to other artists’ ideas, needs and methods. The focus was on building strong and empathetic* feedback networks between collaborators, resulting in an incredible showcase of painting, photography, sculpture, writing, spoken word, ceramics, and video.

The final work was exhibited at FELTspace and brought together in an artist book, published by Have You Seen Him publishing. The exhibition was spearheaded by the talented Emmaline Zanelli, and showcases the incredible creativity and passion of these artists, proving that neurodiversity is an asset in the world of art. Eight Fingers Crossed is a celebration of the power of collaboration and the beauty of diverse perspectives in the creation of meaningful, impactful art.

* The image of me buried on a beach was taken during ritual where all the artists dressed in sci-fi robes and dug a cocooning sand chamber to contain my body as a symbol for metaphorically holding the physical pain I endure having a systemic autoimmune disease
