[2020] Shaping Things - Smac Gallery
Shaping Things explores the evolving relationship between clay and ceramics in contemporary South African art practices. Clay has a rich history in artistic expression dating back to ancient times, and it continues to inspire contemporary artists like myself to push boundaries and challenge traditional views of the medium.

As an artist working with clay, I am fascinated by the material's versatility and the ways in which it can be shaped to create a range of forms and textures. I believe that the medium is no longer confined to traditional craft practices, but can be used as a tool for creative expression and the exploration of complex ideas.

Shaping Things is a powerful reminder that the artist's imagination and intention are the driving forces behind the creation of meaningful art. By challenging preconceived notions of the role of clay in artistic practice, this exhibition opens up new possibilities for creative expression and contributes to the ongoing evolution of contemporary South African art.
