[2021] Solviur Ambulando
The Latin phrase Solvitur ambulando (ˈSɒlvɪtər ˌæmbjʊˈlændoʊ) perfectly encapsulates my creative process, as it means "it is solved by walking". I have always found that my internal conflicts are best resolved through practical experimentation and motion.
This series is a representation of the conflicts I have faced in my life, such as family structure deterioration and the confluence of existential threats such as global warming and the ever imposing force of technology on our lives.
Through my explorative impulses and subconscious disturbances, I have embarked on pilgrimages where motion is my medicine. I have found that the act of walking allows me to reclaim the peace my body deserves. The works I created during this period of self-discovery are a testament to that journey. They represent coming to terms with the challenges that plagued my subconscious and the process of finding a sense of peace. My art, being quite a taxing and laborious practice, is an expression of the healing power of motion. The physical struggle with clay becomes a surrogate arena for deciphering the intangible struggle within.
